About Jason
Over the last 25 years, I have devoted myself to delivering high quality, standards-based software solutions to businesses of all sizes. Software development is still just as much an art as it is a science and like most craftsmen, I pride myself on paying attention to the finest of details. Many of my clients have complimented me on my attention to detail.
Businesses need systems that can adapt to their constantly changing needs—and they need solutions quickly. Through the use of agile software development techniques (such as short development iterations), the practical application of design patterns, the use of standard languages and APIs (such as Java, Spring, and REST), and by leveraging Open Source Software, I deliver software solutions to my clients that not only address their immediate needs, but are also flexible enough to evolve over time.
I established jCraftsmen in 2004 and immediately began helping companies automate their business processes by developing software systems that leverage technologies such as:
-
- Open Source
- Application server platforms (JBoss, Tomcat, Weblogic, Websphere)
- Web services (via Java Enterprise Edition technologies)
- XML technologies (e.g., XSLT, XML Schema)
- Enterprise-grade Databases (e.g., MS SQL Server, DB2, Sybase)
I have engineered systems or assisted in the engineering of software systems for companies as small as two employees, up to Fortune 100 enterprises. Here is a sampling of the diverse markets and applications in which I have delivered solutions:
-
- Retail Point of Sale
- Litigative Case Tracking
- Worker’s Compensation
- Message Broker Software (a.k.a. Enterprise Service Bus)
- Emissions Credit Trading, Tracking, and Accounting
- Automated Mortgage Underwriting
- XML-based Document Publishing
I am experienced in complete life cycle development of software systems. I’ve worked closely with clients in both agile environments and through the requirements, design and construction, deployment and maintenance phases. Seeing a job through from start to finish is a priority for me and I have the track record to back it up.
Background
My career in software started in 1990 at The Ohio State University. In 1994, I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer and Information Science from the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University and graduated in the top of my class with Cum Laude distinction. My passion for software development began at Ohio State where I first began writing computer programs on the Apple Macintosh Plus. I pursued writing software for the Macintosh platform until the mid 1990s, when I switched gears and took up writing UI applications on the Microsoft Windows platform using Microsoft Visual C++. In the late 1990s, I transitioned again to writing software on the Java platform and I have been developing Java-based software ever since. The Mac still remains my preferred platform for day-to-day computer use and for Java development when possible.
On a personal note, my wife Carrie and I have two children and a home in the country near Gambier, Ohio. In addition to spending time with my family, I also enjoy volunteering a fair amount of my spare time to various causes of liberty in Ohio. For hobbies, I enjoy shooting, running, woodworking, DIY projects around our house and property, nutrition and health, and occasional hikes and bike rides.
